Progression

  • Place foot on top of the ball.
  • Pull the ball straight back so that it rolls behind you.
  • Turn yourself around to see the ball.
Do it again, with your other foot.

When you can do this consistently, see how many times you can do this (alternating feet) in 10 seconds. You will need to keep the ball close to do a lot of pullbacks in that time.

When you have mastered this, try to do a pullback on a moving ball.

  • Push the ball out in front of you with your foot.
  • While the ball is still moving, do a pullback and turn.
  • Push the ball ahead of you (now going in the opposite direction).
Set up two markers (cones or socks, for example) around 5 giant steps apart. See how many times you can go back and forth between the markers in 10 seconds, doing a pullback at each marker.
